  • Ensure there is a supply of hot running water, soap and paper towels as well as toilet facilities before visiting.
  • Ensure existing cuts are covered with water proof dressing and wash cuts immediately in running water and cover with dressing if occurs during visit.
  • Control and good supervision of group is essential.
  • Listen to the leaders / farmers instructions.
  • Strict guidelines and instruction from leader to the whole group about children not putting fingers in their mouths or eating without washing hands first.
  • Stress the importance of not sucking pens and putting fingers in mouth and supervise this.
  • Children to be told not to eat whilst in the farm, but in designated areas only.
  • Children must be reminded not to touch any animal excretions on cages or on bars whilst on the farm.
  • Clean and change footwear before leaving (and then wash hands).
  • Children must wash their hands after feeding or touching the animals.
  • If available children should use anti-bacterial gel after washing their hands.
